PROGRAMME OBJECTIVES AND COMPETENCES

Students in the academic programme in interlingual communication will receive a high level of competence in language, culture, and contrastive textual skills in Slovene, English, and an additional foreign language (German, French or Italian) and will also receive basic translation competence. This means that after concluding the programme they will be capable of written and oral communication in Slovene and two foreign languages, and will be experts in three European cultures. Graduates of the programme in interlingual communication will be professionals capable of working in various areas of business, in public administration or services, and in organisations or cultural institutions that have extensive international contacts and an international clientele.

General competences:

Subject-specific competences:

  • Ability to work in a multilingual and multicultural environment;
  • Ability to function appropriately in socially, culturally, and ethnically diverse environments;
  • Linguistic competence in two foreign languages;
  • Text competence in Slovene and two foreign languages;
  • Ability to recognise and analyse text comprehension processes in society;
  • Ability to recognise historically based complexity in the concept of culture;
  • Ability to recognise differences and similarities between foreign and Slovene social systems and systems of social values;
  • Ability to recognise the interdependence of the operation of texts in the social context;
  • Ability to transfer theoretical descriptions of a language to applied work with texts;
  • Abilities in interlingual and intercultural communication from a foreign environment into Slovene and from Slovene into a foreign environment;
  • Ability to use language technology.
