There is a very great need for interpreters trained to high professional standards in Slovenia and elsewhere in Europe. Slovenia is currently far from able to satisfy these needs at European Union institutions. According to official information, to function smoothly European institutions will need 80 interpreters per day for each official EU language. As of January 2005, there were 6 Slovene translators employed at European institutions and part-time cooperation with 43 interpreters. Although the Slovene situation is comparable to that of other new EU members, this situation nonetheless needs to change in the shortest time possible.
