Course Description

Objectives and competences

-   to develop high competences for the translation and understanding of English and Slovene texts;
-   to develop cultural and language competences for English and Slovene;
-   to develop technical and professional competences in translating literary and non literary texts;
-   to develop students' descriptive and theoretical-analytical knowledge of translation processes which they can use for teaching and research purposes;
-    to develop the ability to work independently or in a team and to behave in accordance with professional ethics.
 

Content (Syllabus outline)

Students choose two seminars from the selection below. The seminars that are part of the module are the following:

Readings

The basic literature for each seminar is stated separately in the descriptions of the seminars that form the module.
 
Students are expected to have access to various mono and bi-lingual dictionaries in electronic or paper form. Obligatory:

Prerequisits

Enrolment in the second year of the study of translation (MA).

Assessment

Type (examination, oral, coursework, project):
The final grade is composed of the two positive grades from each seminar (50% + 50%). In individual seminars, the final grade consists of two parts:
students are required to do translations and seminars for homework or in class as tests (40% of the final grade); the remaining 60% of the grade is obtained in an examination.
Forms of marking: 6-10 or A-E (positive grade), 1-5 or F (negative grade); the grade is positive if the average is at least 6.0. The assessment is in line with the Statute of the University of Ljubljana and the examination regulations of the Faculty of Arts.
