Course Description

Objectives and competences

  • Ability to use all previously acquired language competencies to produce even the most difficult texts in German;
  • Ability to consolidate and improve expressive capabilities;
  • Training of oral communication / speech skills;
  • To improve reading skills;
  • To enhance vocabulary in German;
  • To deepen knowledge of collocations;
  • Training of analytical skills in the field of word formation, text composition and style;
  • Recognition and analysis of rhetorical figures and devices, such as irony, metaphor, symbols, etc.;
  • Recognition of culture-specific features of the language and the text;
  • Consolidation of the social and cultural background knowledge dealt with in the respective texts.

Students choose 1 seminar from the selection below:

  1. German Text formation I
  2. German Text analysis I
  3.  
  4. A detailed description of the contents of single seminars are given in separate descriptions of these seminars.

Readings

The basic literature for each seminars is stated separetely in the descriptions of the seminars.

Prerequisites

  1. Enrollment in the first year of the MA programme in Translation.

Assessment 

Written exam.

The final grade is the final grade obtained at the chosen seminar.
