Course Description

Objectives and competences

  1. - to develop competence in translating and understanding French and Slovene texts;
  2. - to develop a high level of competence for French and Slovene language and culture;
  3. - to develop high technical and professional competences in translating literary and non-literary texts;
  4. - to develop competences in using computer and technical tools useful in the translation profession;
  5. - to develop competences in finding terminological sources and using computer tools in order to store terminology and create terminological banks;
  6. - to develop students’ ability to form and edit texts in accordance with the specific conventions of the French and Slovene language;
  7. - to acquire the methodological principles needed to solve problems when translating different text types.

Prerequisites

  1. Enrollment in the first year of the MA programme in Translation/Interpreting.

Assessment 

Type (examination, oral, coursework, project):

Translation out of French: Students are required to do translations and seminars for homework or at school as tests (40 % of the final grade); the remaining 60% of the grade is obtained in an examination.
