Course Description

Objectives and competences

  • to develop competences for the translation and understanding of Italian and Slovene texts;
  • to develop cultural and language competences for Italian and Slovene;
  • to develop technical and professional competences in translating literary and non literary texts;
  • to develop students' descriptive and theoretical-analytical knowledge of translation processes which they can use for teaching and research purposes;
  • to develop the ability to work independently or in a team and to behave in accordance with professional ethics;
  • to familiarize the students with the methodology for solving translation problems related to different types of texts.

Content (Syllabus outline)

The seminars that are part of the module are the following:
1.         Literary texts and texts for the arts and humanities
2.         Legal texts
3.         Technical and scholarly texts
A detailed description of the content of single seminars forming the module are given in separate descriptions of the seminars.


The basic literature for each seminar is stated separately in the descriptions of the seminars that form the module.


Registration in the second year of the MA programme in Translation.


The final grade is composed by the three positive grades for each of teh seminars.
Students are required to do translations and seminar papers for homework or in class as tests (50 % of the grade); examination (50%).
