Course Description

Objectives and competences

  • Students develop their language knowledge and skills, focusing on speech comprehension in different discourse circumstances.
  • Students are expected to perfect their knowledge of language-specific grammatical structures.
  • Emphasis is given to learning about language registers used in various communicative contexts
  • The course also focuses on developing language anticipation.

Content (Syllabus outline)

Developing language knowledge and skills.

Special emphasis on oral communication skills, listening/speech comprehension, types of communicative circumstances and understanding different discourse characteristics. Acquiring awareness of the role and significance of language-specific contexts for successful communication; obtaining skills of language anticipation. Students are expected to perfect their knowledge of grammatical structures. This includes learning and consolidating knowledge about individual grammatical structures and categories by analysing their occurence within discourse (also by means of contrastive analysis) and searching for appropriate translation solutions.
