Objectives and subject-specific competences

  • Reinforcing the knowledge and skills gained in the first year in the area of practical Italian-Slovene interlingual communication.
  • Ability to recognize text types and different stylistic features of texts.
  • Understanding and analyzing more complex Italian texts.
  • Cultural and linguistic abilities in Italian and Slovene.
  • Ability to describe and analyze translation processes.
  • Ability to use the basic translation aids, literature, and other sources used in translation.


Description of content

Italian idiomatics and stylistics: Recognizing special features of a language in terms of expression, typical sentence patterns, and collocational as well as other links between words.

Interlingual communication from Italian into Slovene: Translating texts of selected types and with various functions from Italian into Slovene with an emphasis on cultural differences between the two languages; functional analysis of translation strategies, solving specific and systemic translation problems; analyzing semantic fields and special features concerning register; reinforcing comprehension of Italian and Slovene texts.

Conditions for inclusion or to undertake work required

Enrollment in the second year of the Interlingual Communication course.

Methods of assessment and the assessment scale

The final passing grade is the average of passing grades from both cycles. The grades from individual cycles are:
Italian idiomatics and stylistics: exam.
Interlingual communication from Italian into Slovene: assessment during the year (50% of the final grade), exam (50% of the final grade). A positive final grade requires an average of at least 6.0.

Assessment scale: 6–10 (positive) or 1–5 (negative); in line with the Statute of the University of Ljubljana and the faculty's examination rules.
