Objective
The proposed research responds to the growing need of providing public service interpreting (PSI) for the the new linguistic groups of immigrants in Slovenia. It will, on the one hand, analyze the state of the art of public service interpreting (PSI) in Slovenia and attempt to raise awareness for the need of providing PSI among Slovenian health-care stakeholders, and, on the other hand, it will take up a proactive approach by fulfilling all the necessary conditions for the implementation of a training programme for healthcare interpreters which would correspond to the specific needs of Slovenia. Thus, it will incite a clear demand to PSI, since more and more Slovenian healthcare providers have to address the needs of patients who do not speak the Slovenian language or languages in which healthcare providers can communicate. And finally, it shall also make proposals how to organize an effective health-care interpreting provision service in Slovenia.
