Course Description

Aims

  1. 1. Ability to understand and translate German and Slovene business and political texts.
  2. 2. Highly developed competence in German and Slovene language, as well as the relevant business and political spheres.
  3. 3. Highly developed technical and professional competence in translating.
  4. 4. Ability to describe and theoretically analyse the translation processes which can be used for teaching and research purposes.
  5. 5. Ability to edit and form texts in line with German language norms and conventions.
  6. 6. Ability to work individually and as part of a team.
  7. 7. Mastery of the methodological foundations and the solving of problems that arise in the translation of business and political texts into German.

Content

Dealing with the most important genres from the fields of politics, public administration and business. Students become familiar with the vocabulary in these areas and translate appropriate texts. The solving of translation problems and deepening of language knowledge. Contrastive discussion of selected genres in Slovene and German (syntactic, stylistic and formal features, etc.).

      Conditions for participation in the course or for the fulfilment of course requirements

      Registration in the 2nd year of the MA programme in Translation.

      Types of assessment and forms of marking

      Evaluation of work during the year (50% of final grade), examination (50% of final grade). Positive grades from 6 to 10, negative grades from 1 to 5, in line with the Statute of the University of Ljubljana and the examination regulations of the Faculty of Arts.
