Course Description

Objectives and competences

  • Ability to use all previously acquired language competencies to produce even the most difficult texts in German;
  • Ability to consolidate and improve expressive capabilities;
  • Training of oral communication / speech skills;
  • To improve reading skills;
  • To enhance vocabulary in German;
  • To deepen knowledge of collocations;
  • Training of analytical skills in the field of word formation, text composition and style;
  • Recognition and analysis of rhetorical figures and devices, such as irony, metaphor, symbols, etc.;
  • Recognition of culture-specific features of the language and the text;
  • Consolidation of the social and cultural background knowledge dealt with in the respective texts.

Content (Syllabus outline)

The focus of the course will be on:

  1. - formation of German texts from different thematic areas (expert report, minutes / protocol, journalistic article, comment, essay, etc.);
  2. - developing language skills to deal with different topics;
  3. - discussion/paper on given topic;
  4. - idioms, collocations;
  5. - special stylistic features of the language;
  6. - culture-specifics of texts;
  7. - intercultural dimension of translating practice.
