Objectives and competences

  • Introduction to basic lexicological terminology
  • foregrounding of the role of lexicology within translation
  • comprehension of the role of corpus linguistics in contemporary lexicology and lexicography
  • the notion of partial translation equivalence
  • recognition, analysis and solution of lexical translation problems
  • development of efficient skills of dictionary use
  • evaluation of dictionaries and other lexical resources
  • distinguishing between expressions with specific reference and general ones
