Content (Syllabus outline)

This class is intended to develop the linguistic, translation, and intercultural skills of students and is oriented toward stimulating their sensitivity to the special cultural nature of French and Slovene texts.
Instruction focuses on increasing the ability to understand texts in both Slovene and French, especially in cases of syntactic complexity and ambiguity, metaphorical meaning, analogy, and specifically Slovene and French cultural references. Work in the class is oriented toward stimulating sensitivity to such references and to shaping various strategies for transferring specifically Slovene elements of a text into French. The presentation of the classes deals with selected areas of French-Slovene contrastive analysis.
